Day 1: Marrakech » Tizi n’Tichka » Ouarzazate » Dades Gorges [332 km]
Your 5 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga desert begins after a delicious breakfast. At 9 AM, our local driver will pick you up from your hotel/riad in Marrakech. Get ready for an adventure to the Dades Valley, which will take you through the enchanting passes of Tizi-en-Tichka, located 2,260 meters above sea level in the High Atlas Mountains.
As we drive through the mountainous terrain, a feast for the eyes unfolds. The landscape paints itself in a variety of colors, while authentic Berber villages line the route. Our first stop is Ouarzazate, where we will visit the magnificent Kasbah of Taourirt, a true gem among the palaces in Morocco. The agenda also includes a visit to the famous Oscars film studios, providing a glimpse into Morocco cinematic heritage. We will enjoy a delicious lunch in this lively city.
Our Morocco desert trip continues through the enchanting Valley of Roses, where the sprawling Skoura palm grove beckons with its many reeds. This fertile land is home to the cultivation of the Damask rose, which is used to produce the sought-after rose water. Don’t miss the annual Rose Festival, which takes place in May. As the day begins, we arrive at the Dades Gorge, where a comfortable riad overlooking the valley awaits you for a relaxing night’s rest.
Day 2: Dades Gorges » Todra Gorges » Merzouga Desert [272 km]
After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, day 2 of our best 5 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert begins. We set off towards the stunning Todra Gorge, where Berber villages dot the landscape. Our journey takes us through Tinerhir, where we will stop to admire the picturesque Todra Valley decorated with thriving palm trees. Arriving at the Todra Gorges, a popular rock climbing destination, we will indulge in a short hike through its magnificent gray and pink valleys reaching up to 300 meters.
The next stage leads us through Tengdad and Torug, where a delicious lunch awaits us. Our journey then takes us to Erfoud, marking the entrance to the desert oasis of Tafilalet. The trail continues to the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes of Merzouga.
And here the adventure takes a magical turn. You will ride a camel on an unforgettable journey that will last about an hour and a half. While traversing the dunes, take a break to watch the magical sunset, try sandboarding if you feel like it, take amazing photos, and soak in the picturesque surroundings.
Farewell to the sun, you will arrive at the Berber campsite. A warm cup of mint tea welcomes you, followed by a hearty dinner, an inviting evening filled with the warmth of a campfire and music, and a truly memorable night’s stay in traditional Berber nomadic tents amidst the dunes of Merzouga.
Day 3: Merzouga Sightseeing [60 km]
After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, the third day of our Merzouga trip will take us to captivating sites surrounding the enchanting Erg Chebbi dunes. Our first stop is the Hassi Labid Oasis, where you will see an irrigation canal and witness traditional land cultivation practices.
Our journey continues south to the seasonal Srigi Lake (subject to water availability), offering an opportunity for quiet contemplation. The road then takes us to the village of Khamlia, where you can immerse yourself in the enchanting sounds of Gnawa music. The village is home to descendants of dark-skinned immigrants who arrived in Morocco more than a century ago, and their history as former slaves adds depth to their music.
M’ifis mines will come next. Besides its reputation as a desert tourist area, Merzouga is also famous for its mineral and fossil riches. After a nutritious breakfast at your hotel, the next day of your adventure begins. You will meet your driver and embark on a journey to Ouarzazate, with interesting route planning. Our first stop takes us through Rissani, where you will have the chance to explore its traditional weekly market. If your visit coincides with market days (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), you will get a great glimpse into the local trade and culture.
As we continue our journey, you’ll traverse an arid pre-desert landscape embellished with the acacia trees characteristic of the area. The road then leads to the Draa Valley, where we will pause to enjoy stunning views of the river that gives the valley its name. This river is distinguished by being the longest in Morocco.
Our 5 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga desert continues towards Ouarzazate, taking you through the enchanting Atlas Mountain range. We will set aside some free time for lunch in town, allowing you to savor local flavors and relax.
