Day 1: Marrakech » Ait Ben Haddou » Ouarzazate
In the morning, we will pick you up at your hotel in Marrakech and set off on a day trip to Ouarzazate. To point out, the road to our first stop Ait Ben Haddou is very scenic. In brief, it will offer the most breathtaking views of the picturesque High Atlas Mountains. Moreover, we will be stopping along the way to take in the vistas of the mountains and, the spectacular landscape along the Tizi n’Tichkapass (2260m above sea level).
Next, at Ait Ben Haddou, we will visit the beautiful ancient Kasbah. The fortified, red-earthen settlement is over 1200 years old and offers a glimpse of what ancient Morocco looked like. Moreover, a lot of the original features of the village are still intact. Not to mention, the historical aspect of this place is one of the reasons several films have been shot here. The Mummy, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Babel, and the Game of Thrones series to name just a few. For sure, Its tall forts and geometrical motifs are a sight to behold.
Afterward, we will have lunch here, enjoying the local cuisine and centuries-old recipes. In the afternoon, we will head on to Ouarzazate. Our itinerary includes also Atlas Studios which, is located 5 km outside Ouarzazate. Next, we will be proceeding into the city for a panoramic view of the Kasbahs of Taourirt and Tifoultoute. Indeed, the fortified city offers an exotic backdrop and it has seen many Hollywood productions filmed here. For example, films like Sahara and Alexander to name just a couple. If we have the time, we will also, venture into the cinema museum, among other activities.
Late afternoon, we will start driving back to Marrakech. For sure, you will get to enjoy the beautiful landscape on the way once more. Lastly, we will drop you off at your accommodations in the city, marking the end of a fantastic single day.
