Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Gorges [330 km]

Your 3 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert begins early in the morning, when you are picked up in Marrakech and driven toward the High Atlas Mountains. The road climbs through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, one of the highest mountain passes in North Africa, with sweeping views over terraced valleys and small Berber villages built into the hillsides. Your driver will stop along the way so you can take photos, stretch your legs, and get a real feel for how the landscape shifts as you leave the city behind.

The first major stop is Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its red clay architecture and its role as a filming location for productions like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After walking through the old ksar and hearing the story behind its centuries of history, the journey continues to Ouarzazate, often nicknamed the gateway to the Sahara. Here you will pass film studios and desert kasbahs before the route turns toward the Dades Valley.

By late afternoon, the scenery shifts again, moving through palm groves and rocky mountain terrain until you reach the Dades Gorges, a valley known for its striking rock formations and quiet, dramatic views. You will settle into a local hotel or guesthouse for dinner and an overnight stay, giving you time to rest and recharge before the second half of the journey toward Merzouga.

Day 2: Dades Gorges – Todra Gorge – Merzouga Desert [265 km]

After breakfast, the tour heads to Todra Gorge, one of Morocco most striking natural landmarks. Towering rock walls rise on either side of a narrow river valley, and you will have time for a short walk through the canyon and a chance to see how local families still farm the oasis floor below. It is a peaceful stop and a good contrast to the open desert waiting ahead.

From Todra Gorge, the drive continues deeper into southern Morocco, and the landscape gradually trades mountains for dry plains and small desert towns. After breakfast at camp, you will begin the return drive to Marrakech, passing once again through small desert towns and shifting scenery along the way.

Along the route, you will stop in Nkob, a quiet village known for its palm groves and traditional kasbah architecture, before continuing through the Anti-Atlas Mountains and back through Ouarzazate. There will be more chances to stop for photos and stretch your legs before the final climb back over the High Atlas Mountains.
