15 Days Morocco Tour from Tangier

Day 1: Welcome to Tangier, Morocco

Welcome to Morocco. Your driver will meet you at Tangier Airport or the port and transfer you to your hotel. There is nothing else on the schedule today. Rest, settle in, and get ready for the trip ahead. Overnight stay in Tangier.

Day 2: Tangier to Chefchaouen [121 km]

This morning, you head into the Rif Mountains toward Chefchaouen. The drive passes small villages and green hillsides, and it is one of the most scenic stretches of the whole trip. Once you arrive, the afternoon is free to explore. Walk the blue-painted lanes, visit Plaza Uta el-Hammam, and take in the view from the old Kasbah. Overnight in a traditional riad.

Day 3: Free Day in Chefchaouen

Today has no fixed plan. Spend the morning wandering deeper into the blue streets, away from the main square. In the afternoon, walk up to the Spanish Mosque. The view from there stretches across the whole town and the surrounding mountains, and it is one of the best sunset spots in Morocco. Overnight in the same riad.

Day 4: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes [264 km]

You leave Chefchaouen and head south, with two stops on the way to Fes. First is Volubilis, Morocco’s best-preserved Roman site and a UNESCO landmark. You can still see mosaic floors and standing columns from the old city. Next comes Meknes, one of Morocco’s four imperial capitals. Here you will see the massive Bab Mansour gate and the busy El Hedim Square. By evening, you arrive in Fes and check into your riad.

Day 5: Explore Fes with a Local Guide

A local guide meets you this morning for a walk through the Fes Medina, one of the largest car-free old towns in the world. You will pass through the Bab Boujloud gate, see the open-air Chouara Tannery, and visit the Al Attarine Madrasa. The tour also passes the carved doors of the Royal Palace. Afterward, you have free time before returning to your riad.

Day 6: Fes – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert [452 km]

This is the longest driving day, and also one of the most scenic. You first pass through Ifrane, known for its European-style buildings and tidy parks. Next comes the Cedar Forest, where wild Barbary macaques often appear near the road. Past Midelt, the Ziz Valley opens up, lined with palm groves and steep rock cliffs. By late afternoon, you reach Merzouga, where the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi come into view. Dinner and overnight stay near the dunes.

Day 7: Explore Merzouga Desert

Today is dedicated to the desert. In the morning, visit the small village of Khamlia to hear live Gnawa music. If you want more adventure, you can add on quad biking or dune buggy driving. Later, you set out by camel across the dunes to reach your desert camp. Dinner and Berber music around the fire.

Day 8: Merzouga Desert – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley [263 km]

Most travelers wake early to watch the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, you continue to Rissani, a market town with ties to Morocco’s royal history. From there, the road leads to Todra Gorge, where rock walls rise more than 200 meters above a narrow canyon. It is worth stepping out to walk through it on foot. The drive then continues along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs into the Dades Valley. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 9: Dades Valley – Rose Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech [337 km]

Today’s drive passes through the Rose Valley, known for its spring rose harvest. Next is Ouarzazate, sometimes called the “Hollywood of Morocco” for its film studios. The main stop of the day is Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed fortified village built from red earth. It has appeared in many films and remains one of the most striking sights in the country. From there, the road climbs over the High Atlas Mountains on the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with mountain villages and wide views along the way, before dropping into Marrakech by late afternoon.

Day 10: Explore Marrakech with a Local Guide

A local guide walks you through Marrakech main landmarks this morning, including the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, and the Koutoubia Mosque. From there, you continue into the Medina, passing through narrow lanes filled with small shops. The tour ends at Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, which fills with musicians, storytellers, and food stalls as the afternoon turns to evening. The rest of the day is free. Overnight in your riad.

Day 11: Marrakech to Rabat [317 km]

This morning, you head north to Rabat, Morocco’s capital. You arrive with time to see the city’s main sights. Visit the Hassan Tower and its rows of ancient columns, then walk through the Kasbah of the Udayas, which looks out over the Atlantic. Rabat moves at a slower pace than Marrakech or Fes, and it makes for a relaxed stop. Overnight in a hotel.

Day 12: Rabat to Casablanca [87 km]

A short drive brings you to Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city. The main stop is the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world and one of the few in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors. Part of the prayer hall floor sits directly over the ocean. Afterward, take a walk along the Corniche and enjoy the city’s modern skyline. Overnight in Casablanca.

Day 13: Casablanca to Essaouira [375 km]

Today’s drive follows the coast south to Essaouira, a fortified port town and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Portuguese-built walls still line the harbor, and the Medina inside them is calmer than those you have already seen. Once you check into your riad, the rest of the day is free. Walk the narrow streets, browse the art shops, or try fresh seafood by the harbor. Overnight in Essaouira.

Day 14: Free Day in Essaouira

There is no set plan today. Some travelers walk the old ramparts and watch the fishing boats come in. Others head to the beach south of town, which is popular with windsurfers. Back in the Medina, take a look at the local woodworking shops, where craftsmen carve the fragrant local thuya wood by hand. As evening comes, the light over the Atlantic makes for a memorable sunset. Overnight in your riad.

Day 15: Transfer to Marrakech or Casablanca Airport

On your final day, your driver transfers you to either Marrakech or Casablanca Airport, depending on your flight. This brings your 15 Days Morocco Tour from Tangier to a close.
