Hi, I'm Jessica. I'm an American travel writer with a deep love for Morocco's culture, history and people. I first came here in the late 1990s and never really left: with a Moroccan Berber guide I co-founded Best Morocco Travel, a small company that plans private trips across the country, and over the years I've explored every corner of it, from the colourful souks of Marrakech to the quiet desert camps in the Sahara, the blue lanes of Chefchaouen and the fishing harbour of Essaouira.

Everything I write on this site comes from those trips and from the questions our travellers ask us before they book: whether the tap water is safe, what to wear in November, how long the drive to the dunes really takes, whether a city is safe at night. I try to answer them the way I would answer a friend: directly, with the numbers, and with the small details that only come from having been there many times.

How I write these guides

• From the road. I travel the routes we sell every season, with our own driver-guides, and update the guides when something changes on the ground.
• Facts first. Distances, temperatures, visa rules and prices are checked against official sources and our own bookings, and each guide shows the date it was last updated.
• Honest about the downsides. If a month is too hot for the desert or a city needs extra care at night, the guide says so.
